Xtabay Glamour Makeover!

Those of you who have been by Xtabay recently have noticed that we're undergoing a transformation. The back of the store is now Wedgewood blue with 1960s gilt chandeliers, and soon the leopard carpet will move to the front of the store. To go with the new blue walls and brocade dressing room curtains, we'll put down an ivory carpet. Glamourous!

To match the new look, Xtabay is building up its bridal section. We've had lots of customers asking about wedding and bridesmaid dresses, so Liz is answering the call with a rack of gowns from the 1920s through the 1970s. Why pay thousands of dollars for a cheaply made dress that you'll only wear once when you could have a one-of-a-kind vintage dress with style you'll never find in a wedding boutique?

Right now we have a gorgeous Emma Domb ivory, tea-length wedding dress with a wrapped bodice and beaded trim. It would be fabulous with bridesmaids each wearing a different 1950s pale pink dress. We also have a long, lacy, full-trained 1960s Charles Berg wedding gown and a few Jackie O-style brocade dresses and suits. One of my favorites is a 1960s dress cut with a curved Empire waist that has a jacket, also elegantly curved in the back, that looks like something Audrey Hepburn would have been married in had she gone to the courthouse in Paris.

We also have a smattering of 1980s prom dresses for brides who plan to serve Long Island Iced Tea and play Boston at their receptions (just kidding--but not about the dresses, of course). And, as always, the store is chockfull of terrific rehearsal dinner dresses or dresses to wear as a guest to weddings.

Don't forget that Xtabay is happy to reserve the store for the evening--free of charge--for you to bring in your bridesmaids to have hors d'oeuvres and a glass of wine and have a good time finding wedding clothes. You might even want to arrange to have someone come and give manicures or give palm readings.

  1. Very exciting news about the Xtabay, Liz! I wish you every success with the store's new focus. I can't wait to see the remodel.

  2. Your transformations sound amazing! I've got to come by and see it all! We've been sending loads of people your way in search of fabulous vintage wedding wear! I'm so glad more and more people are choosing vintage for their special day. You're right, vintage is so much more affordable, not to mention much more personal and full of character.
